A Latin phrase meaning "there is nothing," entered as a sheriff's return on a writ when the officer was unable to serve it on the person named. The return records a failure of service and is mostly found in older common law practice. It differs from nulla bona, the return on a writ of execution when no goods of the debtor could be found to seize.
