Writ of attachment

A court order that authorizes the seizure of a defendant's property to secure a judgment or to bring the defendant into court. This writ is typically issued before a final judgment to prevent a defendant from disposing of assets that could be used to satisfy a future monetary award. The property is held by the court or a designated officer until the case is resolved.
