Nonobvious

A criterion for patentability, requiring that an invention not be obvious to a person having ordinary skill in the art at the time the invention was made. This standard prevents the patenting of minor improvements or combinations of existing elements that would be readily apparent. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) evaluates nonobviousness under 35 U.S.C. § 103.
