Paycheck

A negotiable instrument, such as a check, or an electronic payment issued by an employer to an employee as compensation for work performed. It represents the employee's net earnings after deductions for taxes, social security, and other withholdings have been subtracted from the gross wages. Federal and state laws, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, regulate the timing and form of these payments.
