Prisoner

An individual who is lawfully confined in a correctional facility, such as a prison or jail, as a result of a criminal conviction or while awaiting trial. Prisoners retain certain constitutional rights, though these rights are often limited by the needs of institutional security. These rights are frequently litigated under the Eighth Amendment.
