Time served

The period a defendant has spent in custody prior to sentencing, which is credited against any subsequent prison or jail sentence. This includes time spent in jail awaiting trial, during trial, or after conviction but before sentencing. The calculation of time served is a standard practice in criminal sentencing, often mandated by state and federal statutes.
