Federal Sentencing Guidelines

A set of rules and principles established by the United States Sentencing Commission that federal judges use to determine appropriate sentences for convicted criminals. These guidelines aim to reduce sentencing disparities and promote proportionality in sentencing. While advisory since 2005, judges must still consider them.
