Federal Rules of Evidence

A set of rules that governs the introduction of evidence in most proceedings in United States federal courts. The Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE) cover topics such as relevance, privileges, witnesses, opinions, expert testimony, and hearsay, along with its numerous exceptions, to secure fairness and ascertain truth. Congress enacted the FRE in 1975, and they apply in both civil and criminal federal cases.
