Expert witness

An individual with specialized knowledge, skill, experience, training, or education in a particular field, who provides testimony in court to assist the trier of fact. Unlike a lay witness, an expert witness is permitted to offer opinions and conclusions based on their expertise. Their testimony must be relevant and based on sufficient facts or data, as outlined in Federal Rule of Evidence 702.
