Qualified witness

A witness whose knowledge or training lets the court accept the testimony for a particular evidentiary purpose. For business records under Federal Rule of Evidence 803(6), the term means the custodian or another person familiar with how the records are made and kept, who can testify that they meet the rule's requirements. A witness qualified as an expert by knowledge, skill, experience, training, or education may give opinion testimony under Rule 702.
