Confine

To restrain a person's liberty or freedom of movement to a particular area, such as a jail, prison, or other designated space, against their will and by legal authority. Confinement can also refer to non-physical restraint, such as house arrest, where movement is restricted by court order. The legality of confinement is governed by constitutional principles, including the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable seizures and the Eighth Amendment's prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment.
