Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003926
Describing a document, action, or ruling done as a formality or to satisfy a minimum requirement, without implying substantive consideration. A pro forma financial statement, for example, presents hypothetical figures based on certain assumptions, such as a proposed merger. In court proceedings, a pro forma order is one entered to move the case along or to meet a procedural deadline, with the understanding that the underlying issues will be addressed more fully at a later stage.
