Pro hac vice

A grant of temporary permission for an attorney who is not licensed to practice in a particular jurisdiction to appear in a case before its courts. The out-of-state lawyer must file a motion and associate with a locally licensed attorney who is responsible for the case and the visiting lawyer's conduct. This status, Latin for "for this occasion," is granted at the discretion of the court and is limited to a single, specific case.
