Qualified plan

An employee benefit plan that meets specific requirements of the Internal Revenue Code and ERISA, allowing for tax-deferred growth of contributions and earnings. Contributions to these plans are often tax-deductible for the employer and not immediately taxable to the employee. Examples include 401(k)s, 403(b)s, and traditional pension plans.
