The period during which a legislative body, such as a congress or parliament, is convened for the purpose of transacting business. A session can last for a specific duration, such as a year, and is composed of the daily meetings or sittings of the assembly. A legislature may hold regular sessions, which are scheduled by constitution or statute, and special sessions, which are called to address specific issues.
