Small estate

The estate of a person who died owning property below a statutory value limit, which is settled through a simplified procedure such as a sworn affidavit or summary probate instead of full administration. Each state sets its own ceiling, ranging from under 30,000 dollars in the lowest states to more than 200,000 dollars in states such as California. Limits are typically adjusted periodically for inflation.
