Social Security Administration

An independent agency of the United States federal government, the Social Security Administration (SSA), which manages the nation's social insurance programs. Its primary responsibilities include administering retirement, disability, and survivor benefits, as well as the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program for the aged, blind, and disabled. The agency was created by the Social Security Act of 1935.
