Social Security Disability Insurance

A federal insurance program that provides monthly benefits to individuals who have worked and paid Social Security taxes, and who are now unable to engage in substantial gainful activity due to a severe medical condition. To qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), the impairment must be expected to last for at least 12 months or result in death. Eligibility also depends on having accumulated a sufficient number of work credits.
