Specific tax

A tax levied as a fixed amount per unit of a good or service, regardless of its price. This contrasts with an ad valorem tax, which is based on a percentage of the value. Examples include a tax of a certain amount per gallon of gasoline or per pack of cigarettes, often used to discourage consumption of particular products.
