Tax costs
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-004839
A motion by the losing party objecting to the court costs claimed by the prevailing party and asking the court to deny or reduce particular items, such as filing fees, transcript charges, and witness fees. The clerk or judge reviews the itemized bill of costs and decides which items the loser must reimburse. In federal civil cases, Rule 54(d)(1) and section 1920 of Title 28 govern which costs are recoverable, and attorney fees are excluded unless a statute or contract separately awards them.
