Tax sale

A legal process by which a governmental body sells property to recover unpaid property taxes. The sale typically occurs after a period of delinquency, and the proceeds are used to satisfy the outstanding tax lien. Purchasers at a tax sale acquire the property subject to certain redemption rights of the original owner.
