Unemployment compensation

A government insurance program providing temporary, partial wage replacement to workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. To receive benefits, an individual must meet state-specific eligibility requirements related to prior earnings and work history, and must be able and available to work while actively seeking new employment. The program is funded primarily through taxes paid by employers at both the federal and state levels under the provisions of the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA).
