The criminal act of presenting or putting into circulation a forged or counterfeit document, such as a check, currency, or security, with the intent to defraud, even if the item is not successfully accepted. This offense is separate from the act of forgery, which is the creation of the false document. Proof of knowledge that the item is false is a key element of the crime.
