False pretenses

A criminal offense involving obtaining money or property through intentional misrepresentation of existing facts. The perpetrator makes a false statement of fact, knowing it to be untrue, with the intent to defraud the victim. This crime is distinct from larceny by trick, which involves obtaining possession but not title to property.
