Pretexting

The act of obtaining personal information under false pretenses, often by impersonating someone else or misrepresenting one's identity. This deceptive practice is frequently used to gain access to confidential records, such as phone records or bank accounts. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act specifically prohibits pretexting for financial information.
