A shipment of goods, the consignment, sent by a consignor, the party that ships or owns them, to a consignee, the party named on the transport documents to receive them. In shipping, the consignee is the receiving party and is not necessarily the buyer or a sales agent. The words also describe consignment stock, a sales arrangement in which the consignee sells the goods on the owner's behalf and pays the consignor only after they sell.
