Third-party billing

An arrangement where a party other than the shipper or consignee is responsible for paying the freight charges for a shipment. This occurs when a third party, such as a vendor, distributor, or another logistics provider, assumes the financial obligation for transportation costs. The billing party is typically identified on the bill of lading or other shipping documentation.
