Active system
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003279
A weather system, such as a cyclone, front, or convective complex, that is currently producing or is forecast to produce significant meteorological phenomena like precipitation, strong winds, or thunderstorms. The term distinguishes it from a dissipating or inactive system that is weakening or no longer poses a threat. An active system is characterized by ongoing dynamic and thermodynamic processes, such as vertical motion and energy conversion, that sustain its structure and intensity.
