Active front

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003275

A weather front that produces a distinct band of clouds and precipitation. Strong temperature and moisture gradients across the frontal zone drive vertical motion, leading to condensation and the formation of widespread weather phenomena. The intensity of an active front is determined by the magnitude of the temperature contrast and the speed of its movement.
