Split cold front
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009153
A type of cold front where the main frontal boundary aloft becomes separated from the surface cold front. This occurs when a dry, upper-level cold front advances more rapidly than the moist, lower-level cold front. The upper front can trigger convection ahead of the surface front, leading to complex weather patterns.
