Cold-front thunderstorm
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004511
A type of thunderstorm that forms along or ahead of a cold front, where a mass of cold, dense air displaces warmer, moist air, forcing it to rise rapidly. The lifting of the warm, unstable air creates strong updrafts and downdrafts, leading to the development of cumulonimbus clouds and associated severe weather. These thunderstorms often occur in a line parallel to the front and can produce heavy rain, hail, and strong winds.
