Thunderstorm outflow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009657
A surge of cool, dense air that spreads horizontally away from the base of a thunderstorm, generated by the downdraft of precipitation-cooled air. This outflow boundary can act as a miniature cold front, lifting warm, moist air ahead of it and potentially triggering new thunderstorms. It is often visible as a shelf cloud or roll cloud.
