Katabatic front
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006767
A boundary that forms when a mass of cold, dense air, flowing downslope as a katabatic wind, encounters warmer, less dense air. This front is characterized by a sharp temperature gradient and often leads to significant weather changes, such as sudden drops in temperature and increases in wind speed. It is common in polar regions and mountainous areas.
