Afternoon effect

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003358

The tendency for convective activity, such as thunderstorms, to develop or intensify during the late afternoon hours. This effect is driven by the diurnal heating cycle, where solar radiation warms the Earth's surface, leading to increased instability and rising air parcels. It is a common pattern in many continental climates during warm seasons.
