Oasis effect

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007639

A localized cooling effect observed in vegetated or moist areas surrounded by drier, hotter environments. This phenomenon occurs because the available energy in the oasis is primarily used for evapotranspiration, which cools the surface and the air above it, rather than for sensible heating. The oasis effect results in lower temperatures and higher humidity within the oasis compared to its arid surroundings, creating a distinct microclimate.
