Nyquist frequency

The maximum frequency that can be unambiguously resolved in a discretely sampled signal. It is equal to half the sampling rate of the data acquisition system. Frequencies higher than the Nyquist frequency will appear as lower frequencies due to aliasing, leading to misinterpretation of the true signal.
