Aridity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003628
The degree to which a climate lacks sufficient moisture to support abundant plant life, resulting from a long-term imbalance between precipitation and evapotranspiration. It is a measure of dryness, indicating the severity of water scarcity in a region. Aridity is often quantified using indices that compare precipitation to potential evaporation.
