Ascendent
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003644
The point on the ecliptic that is rising on the eastern horizon at a particular time and place. While primarily an astronomical and astrological term, it has historical connections to meteorology through astrometeorology, an ancient practice that attempted to forecast weather based on the positions of celestial bodies. The ascendent, along with other planetary positions, was used to predict atmospheric conditions, though this practice is not part of modern atmospheric science.
