Astronomical refraction

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003654

The apparent displacement of celestial objects from their true positions due to the bending of light rays as they pass through Earth's atmosphere. This phenomenon causes objects near the horizon to appear higher than they actually are. The amount of refraction depends on the atmospheric pressure, temperature, and the zenith angle of the object.
