Anomalous refraction
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003534
The deviation of light or other electromagnetic waves from their normal path as they pass through the atmosphere, caused by unusual variations in the refractive index. This phenomenon can lead to optical illusions such as mirages or the apparent distortion of distant objects. It is often associated with strong temperature inversions near the Earth's surface.
