A cold, dry, and often strong wind blowing from the northwest or north in the Auvergne and Languedoc regions of south-central France. This wind descends from the plateaus of the Massif Central, undergoing adiabatic warming but remaining cold relative to the air in the lowlands. The aspre is most prevalent during the winter and spring seasons, bringing clear skies and a sharp drop in temperature.
