Background pollution

The general level of atmospheric contaminants present in a region, originating from natural processes or distant anthropogenic sources, rather than specific local emissions. It represents the ambient air quality without the influence of nearby point sources. This type of pollution can still have regional or global impacts on air quality and climate.
