Case-based reasoning

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004191

An artificial intelligence approach to problem-solving that is applied to weather forecasting by using past meteorological events, or 'cases', to predict future outcomes. A new forecast problem is solved by finding a similar historical case in a database and reusing information and knowledge from that single case to predict the evolution of the current weather pattern. This method is a computational formalization of analog forecasting, where forecasters search for past weather maps that resemble the current state.
