Choppy sea

A sea surface characterized by short, irregular, and steep waves that break easily. This condition arises from local winds blowing against an opposing swell or from rapidly changing wind directions. It makes navigation difficult for small vessels and is distinct from a regular swell, which consists of longer, more organized waves.
