Circular variable

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004303

A type of variable whose values are angles or directions, such as wind direction or time of day, where the beginning and end of the scale meet. Statistical analysis of circular variables requires specialized methods that account for their periodic nature. For example, the mean of 350 degrees and 10 degrees is 0 degrees or 360 degrees, not 180 degrees.
