Clear air

A portion of the atmosphere that is free of clouds, precipitation, and other visible hydrometeors such as fog or mist. While visually transparent, it contains atmospheric gases, aerosols, and may contain turbulence. The term is most frequently used in the context of clear-air turbulence (CAT), which occurs in these conditions and poses a hazard to aviation.
