Climate monitoring

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004346

The systematic and continuous observation of climate variables and indicators over time to detect changes and trends in the Earth's climate system. This involves collecting data from ground-based stations, satellites, and ocean buoys on parameters such as temperature, precipitation, sea level, and greenhouse gas concentrations. Long-term climate monitoring provides the empirical basis for climate research and policy development.
