Climate noise
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004347
The natural, unforced variability within the climate system that can obscure underlying trends or signals of external forcing. This inherent randomness arises from chaotic interactions between atmospheric, oceanic, and land surface components. Climate noise makes it challenging to detect anthropogenic climate change over short time scales or in specific regions.
