Climate signal
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004352
A detectable change in a climate variable that is attributable to a specific forcing mechanism, often anthropogenic, and distinguishable from natural climate variability. Identifying a climate signal requires statistical analysis to separate the forced response from the background noise of natural fluctuations. For example, the global warming trend is considered a climate signal of increased greenhouse gas concentrations.
