Noise level

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007564

The magnitude of unwanted random fluctuations or disturbances present in a signal or measurement, often expressed in decibels (dB) or as a ratio. In atmospheric remote sensing, it quantifies the background interference that can obscure the true atmospheric signal. A high noise level can degrade the accuracy and reliability of meteorological observations.
